Hello. If you are reading this, then you are clearly a new reader. That, or you're an old reader that clicked on this section of the site out of boredom. Either way, welcome. I'm the creator of Moron County, Grady Phillips.
Moron County, like many other webcomics out there, is story-based. Although I try my very best to make humor rather than plot progression the center of each comic, plot progression does exist, and a lot of the jokes become dependent on knowledge of past strips. This means that, unless you happened upon this site at a particularly opportune time, such as the beginning of a story arc, the comic on the front page probably makes little or no sense to you. So, to get the full Moron County experience, you'll have to read through the archives.
Now granted, a lot of you probably don't have time to read through the near 200 (and growing) episodes of Moron County currently in the archives. Believe me, I understand. I'm a college student. Hell, I don't have time to read this strip sometimes, and then I have to rely on a team of monkeys to do my updating for me... but that's neither here nor there. The bottom line is, I don't expect all my readers to slug through every last episode of Moron County. However, since so much of the comic's humor depends on the storyline, readers should be somewhat familiar with it in order to get the most enjoyment out of Moron County as they possibly can. In that spirit, I've compiled a list of convenient starting points for your use. According to both reader feedback and my own personal opinion, each of these storylines are great places to start. Along with these links, there's a comprehensive cast page so that you can look up characters without having to hunt them down in the archives (a personal pet peeve I have towards several webcomics out there). Also, once Moron County has enough storylines under its belt, I plan to add a story synopsis section to the archive page to further help new readers get up to speed.
Anyway, here's a list of convenient starting points:
The Party- This is where I first started toying with the idea of making Moron County continuity-based instead of just random jokes. Although the art here is a bit crude, and I was still trying to figure out Moron County's voice (some of the political commentary in this chapter really just isn't my style anymore), this is an excellent introductory storyline that introduces most of the Naobi University and Moron County characters. It is also the place to go if you want to know precisely why one of the characters is a giant, blue, talking rabbit.
Introduction of Francis- This storyline, obviously, introduces Francis, one of the most important and, in general, most reader-appreciated characters in the Moron County story. Although there may be some confusion as to why the four-year-old boys are trying to buy prostitutes, this storyline does a great job of further defining some of the most important characters in the strip, and kicked off what is now a respected Moron County tradition: a fight in every story arc.
Open Bar- The second chapter of the Moron County saga, as well as a fan favorite. This storyline contains many famous lines and hilarious situations that Moron County fans have come to know and love, and also introduces fan-favorite and requisite cute thing, Scooty the Turtle. If you're new to the strip, pressed for time, and don't mind a little unexplained weirdness, this is the place I recommend you start. The story is nicely self-contained and hilarious to boot. If you like it, and have plenty of time on your hands, the rest of the archives are waiting for you.
Back to top- This isn't a starting point. This is just a link to the top of the section so you don't have to scroll back up on your own. Enjoy!
